Summer 2022

Our first summer back onsite after COVID-19 was not without challenges, but with your help, we were able to offer engaging research experiences for our high school students that offered them a unique opportunity to learn from our wonderful physicians, researchers, engineers, and nurses and observe how they conduct research while working as a team.

Over the course of the summer, our 11 METEOR students completed in-depth research projects that culminated in posters and presentations. With your help, they identified research questions, formulated hypotheses, performed statistical analyses and identified next steps. The students also attended 15 lectures as part of the Summer Science Lecture Series focused on topics including health equity, statistics, and team functionalities. Additional highlights included shadowing in the OR, an experience in the ED, the Simulation Lab, and a tour of the NICU.

The culmination of these experiences was very well received by the METEOR students. During end-of-summer debriefs, students expressed immense gratitude for this “life-altering” program. The students really enjoyed having the opportunity to have hands-on experiences in a variety of health/STEM fields, and most students have made arrangements to continue their experience into the fall. None of this summer’s success would have been possible without your support and advocacy, and our team and the METEOR students cannot thank you enough for everything you have done.
